Description:

For an introduction to Zihuatanejo culture, talent and the people of Zihuatanejo themselves, head down to la cancha (the basketball courts) in downtown on a Sunday night.  Broadly labeled "noche de la cultura" (culture night), the local tourist agency and municipal government organize weekly shows that feature students, musicians, artists as well as political, educational and historical events.

Each week is a different showcase so you never know what to expect but you can count on plenty of people and plenty of food.  Bring your monedas (change) and buy a feast of tamales, tacos, creamed corn, popcorn, cotton candy, flavored waters and homemade paletas (popsicles) from the vendors that skirt the main stage.  You won't pay more than 20 pesos for any of the food but you might just count it as your favorite indulgent meal of your trip.

Elbow your way (gently!) into the crowd to get a view of the main action or settle into one of the benches scattered around the square to partake in one of Sunday night's main events: people watching.
