Neighborhood Description

Ancestor Square

Calling itself the "art and soul of St. George since the 1860s," this quaint yet hip city section bears a visit if you've flown in from Las Vegas en route to Zion. There are twelve distinct buildings in this lively district, all with their own cool backgrounds as settings for various historical episodes, including the jail where one James Leroy Parker supposedly spent a great deal of his time...you might know him better as Butch Cassidy. Today his cell bars frame the Shroomies Jailhouse Cafe, which serves up a mean cuppa joe. You can also eat great food (the Painted Pony, Benja Thai & Sushi), shop for art or clothes (Authentique Gallery of Art & Design, Bell Donna Boutique), or even get pampered at Z Spa. May through October, stroll through the Saturday morning Farmer's Market in search of fresh local produce to take with you on your hiking adventures in Zion National Park. © NileGuide
