  • When the sun goes down, Zurich's thriving nightlife is just as diverse and exciting as its daytime offerings. The city's cosmopolitan high culture scene (i.e. opera, ballet, classical theater) is comparable to other major European cities, and its burgeoning bar, club and cafe scene provide lots of options for night owls.

    One of the nicest things about Zurich's nightlife is the selection of outdoor bars that heat up in the summer. Many of the river and lake swimming locations reinvent themselves as drinking establishments in the evening. The best of them are Barfussbar, which is in the center of the Old Town on the Limmat River, and Rimini, which is tucked away on the Schanzengraben.

    For those interested in getting a nightcap at any time of the year, Zurich has no shortage of bars that suit any taste. Italian-inspired La Stanza is popular with the after-work crowd, while Bar Corazón is home to an excellent selection of Spanish wines. Cocktails lovers are well served at Barfly'z whose menu features more than a dozen martinis. University-affiliated Bar bQm is one of the cheapest places to get a beer in town.

    Music lovers will enjoy Zurich's many live music venues. Moods im Schiffbau is the prime place to go to listen to jazz, folk and other types of music. Eccletic El Lokal is also home to offbeat live music, while alternative culture haven Rote Fabrik hosts all kinds of performances. Acapulco near Limmatplatz hosts a karaoke night every Sunday, which is a great way to hear some "local" talent.
