  • Zurich's multicultural identity is reflected in the city's numerous dining options. From rösti to fondue, kebabs to curries, hot chocolate to cold beer, there are restaurants catering to all palates, all cuisines and all budgets.

When it comes to Swiss food, most visitors think of fondue and its melted cheese cousin raclette. Both fondue and raclette come packed with rich flavor, but there are other Swiss dishes worth trying like Züri Geschnetzeltes (a veal dish served with a wine and cream sauce), Aelplermaccaroni (a pasta dish made with cream, cheese, potatoes and onions) and rösti, the Swiss take on potato pancakes. Raclette Stube, Oepfelchammer and Zeughauskeller are excellent restaurants for sampling any of the above.

In addition to the traditional cuisine, seasonal eating is very popular in Zurich. With its focus on local, organic ingredients, Didi's Frieden caters to this philosophy with monthly changing menus of fine-dining delicacies, while Café Zähringer makes seasonal dishes targeting those on a student budget. Zurich is also big on grilling. Summer beer garden Bauschänzli's outdoor kitchen is great for sausages that go nicely with cold beer. You can get the flavors of summer all year long at Greek restaurant Griechische Taverne Le Beaujolais and Moroccan restaurant Maison Blunt, which are among the best ethnic eateries in Zurich.

Zurich is also home to some original eating opportunities. Vegetarian Hiltl has become a city landmark with its meatless takes on Swiss food and spicy curries, while Blindekuh simulates the blind experience, serving first-rate meals in total darkness.
