As a thriving international city, Zurich has no shortage of hotels. From the ultra-expensive luxury hotels to the official Hosteling International-affiliated youth hostel, Zurich has an accommodation to fit any traveler with any budget.
Many of Zurich's hotels are centered around the Old Town (Altstadt), which is divided by the Limmat River. The Niederdorf area in between Central and Bellevue tram stops is cheaper but can be very lively at night. The Bahnhofstrasse side of the Old Town is much quieter, and its more desirable position is reflected in the hotel prices. For those who would like something swanky, both Widder Hotel and Hotel zum Storchen are excellent establishments worth splurging on. The Dolder Grand Hotel is a comparable high-end experience, and perched on top of Zurichberg, it affords a lovely view down upon the city and the Old Town.
For those intimidated by Zurich's expensive hotels, there are some outstanding mid-range options in equally good locations. Hotel St. Josef is a road removed from the Niederdorf thanks to the Hirschengraben, the former site of one of Zurich's medieval walls, while Hotel Leoneck is one tram stop away from Central at Haldenegg. Hotel Krone Unterstrass is also a short tram ride from the Main Station and the attractions of the Old Town. This hotel also offers reasonable apartment-style accommodations. The lakeside neighborhood Enge is home to Hotel Engimatt, a green oasis in the middle of the city.
Zurich's budget hotels, guesthouses and pensions are spread throughout the city. The most centrally located one is the family run Arlette am Hauptbahnhof Hotel. It is within walking distance of the Main Station and the Old Town. Zum Guten Glück Guesthouse is located near Bahnhof Wiedikon, which is well served by Zurich's trams and buses. Kafischnaps Pension and Cafe near Schaffhauserplatz is also easily accessible by various tram and bus lines.
