Barcelona’s Top Five Tapas Pics

Barcelona is known for its tapas; small dishes of delicious, innovative goodness, ideal for sharing amongst friends on a Barcelona terrace. If it’s your first encounter with the ‘world of small plates or feel like you haven’t really experienced the best that the city has to offer but aren’t sure what to order, it’s worth asking a local for a few tips.

Barcelona’s Top Five Tapas Picks include:

1: Patatas Bravas: The quality of these finger potatoes (Spanish version of home fries) varies depending on where you’re eating. You can delve into the greasy spoon tapas joint and get an oilier version or go to one of Barcelona’s high quality restaurants and find them almost grease free and perfectly browned.

2: Jamon Serrano con Queso: A plate of cured Serrano Ham with a mix of gourmet cheeses. A Barcelona tapas’ staple, this is a must-try and if you’re a ham fan, Barcelona boasts the best in the country. It’s actually a common gift to give a leg of ham to a loved one.

3: Asparagus and Brie Cheese: This isn’t offered in all tapas locales, however when you do find it on the menu it’s worth ordering. It usually comes with a circular block of Brie atop a bed of tasty asparagus.

4: Tuna Tartar: As with the asparagus it depends on which restaurant you’re in. Ginger Bar in the Gothic Quarter serves a mouth-watering dish as do many other higher-end tapas establishments.

5: Pan con Tomate: This is a must when ordering tapas, at least if its your first time. Rub the tomato onto the bread, pour olive oil and then sprinkle a bit of salt on top.
