If you get the chance do try and make a day (and night) trip to Monte Carlo. It’s less than an hour from Nice and well worth the visit. Famous for its casinos, yaughts and affluent residents it is a great place to nose around. Le Grand Casino is the largest tourist attraction in Monaco. As well as a casino it is also home to opera and the ballet – it is the headquaters of the Ballets de Monte Carlo. There should be more than enough to keep you occupied for a night, and you don’t need to be a millionaire to enjoy the slot machines.

Monaco is also home to the Grand Prix. The event draws a big crowd and some of the best yaughts in the world can be seen lining the shoreline. Favourite celebrity haunts include the Hotel de Paris, the Columbus and the Grand.
Popular bars in Monte Carlo include the Chip and Castle (42 quai Jean Charles Rey) Flashman’s (7 Avenue Princesse Alice), McCarthy’s (7 rue du portier), Black Diamond (11 avenue Princesse Grace) and Le Point Rouge (11 rue du Portier).
If you fancy hitting a nightclub The Living Room (7 avenue des Speluges), the Legend (3 avenue des Speluges), Star ‘N’ Bars (6 quai Antoine 1er) and Moods (place du Casino) are the best options.
