Gateway Travel Guide

What’s that looming on the horizon? It’s not just the skyscrapers of Manhattan—it’s New Jersey’s vibrant Gateway. Historical ambiance and contemporary culture create a heady mix in Gateway, making it so much more than a satellite region of commuter towns. You can stroll through the 18th-century in English settlement town Elizabeth’s Midtown district, riddled with historical landmarks, and then delve into the retail delights of mega-mall Jersey Gardens. The stately buildings of Downtown Paterson evoke the city’s former heyday as an industrial hotbed, while its dynamic internationalism offers an around-the-world food adventure. The birthplace of Frank Sinatra and baseball, Hoboken bustles with hip cafes and nightclubs, while its well-preserved brownstones keep it rooted in its past. Feel collegiate as you take in the college-town vibe of New Brunswick, home to Rutgers University, then swing over to Montvale for a piece of true Americana: one of the US’s oldest, and most authentic, Dairy Queens. Take the ferry ride to Jersey City’s Liberty State Park and, of course, swing by the country’s most emblematic monument, the Statue of Liberty. So get outside the Big Apple and experience a whole orchard in Gateway.
