This smallest wine region in France, close to the Swiss border, has a surprisingly wide range of wines from the famous, but somewhat curious Vin Jaune, through to Vin de Paille and Macvin. It's a fascinating region with gorgeous countryside to discover and plenty of hearty food on offer. Just 50km east of Burgundy, you can easily add on a day or two for a visit there. Visit Arbois, covering the area around the town so beloved of Louis Pasteur, and the Lons le Saunier which includes the legendary village and wines of Château Chalon.
