Munich Area Travel Guide

Munich is located in Bavaria; Bavarians are the proudest of all Germans. Locals are loyal to their roots and traditions. Bavaria is also the most autonomous of German states, and many Bavarians see themselves as Bavarians first and foremost, Germans second. Some people have called it the "Texas of Germany". Bavarians also have no problem fulfilling the German stereotype of beer drinking, sausage eating and Lederhosen. This however is only found in rural Bavaria and mainly in the south and east either towards Austria and alps or the thick forests that border the Czech Republic and Bohemia.

Most Bavarians can speak a form of the Bavarian dialect (Bairisch). The dialect, however, is extremely difficult for most other Germans to understand—a person from Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) would have a hard time understanding a Bavarian. Bavarians are usually more conservative than the rest of Germany (or Europe for that matter). Munich, however, is a pretty liberal city with a huge number of people from other parts of Germany, Europe, and the world, and it has a large English-speaking community.

Choosing a Tour Operator in Munich Choosing a Tour Operator in Munich

All tours were not created equal.  In fact, some are simply tourists giving other tourists tours while some are professional historians explaining in fine detail the intricacies of history which have made Munich what it is today.  Cost, physical ability, time of year, and interest can all be factors in which tour you choose. What you should first decide is which kind of tour you would like.  As I’ve already written about that on this blog, I would like to... Read More

Irish Pubs Irish Pubs

Irish pubs can be found in nearly any city on the planet anymore and Munich is certainly not left out.  In fact, for live music and late night drinking options, Irish pubs are usually one of the best bets for tourists.  I’d like to highlight a handful of Munich’s top Irish pubs here so you have an idea of where they are and what they are like before you randomly hit up an Irish pub in Munich.  Here they are: Kennedy’s Irish Pub and Restaurant – Kennedy’s... Read More
