Vancouver and Region Travel Guide

Sure, we all love the crisp cosmopolitanism of Vancouver. But there’s plenty more to the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia than its sparkling metropolis. Laced around the famous city is a ring of suburbs with a surprising array of attractions: historic towns like Fort Langley, shopping meccas like Burnaby and rural excursions to places like Bowen Island, only a short ferry ride from Vancouver. Step a little further out of the urban bustle, and the rewards increase. Foodies relish in the lush produce and fresh salmon of Fraser Valley, while skiers head up to Grouse Mountain. Outdoors lovers hop on the scenic Sea-to-Sky Highway, and head up to the “outdoor recreation capital of Canada,” Squamish. Here, rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, rafting and scuba diving are among the pulse-pounding options. And, of course, when you’re ready for fine dining and diverse living, Vancouver is always just a stone’s throw away. Now that’s a metropolitan area worth exploring.
