Introduction
Húnaflói (Bear Cub Bay) lies between the Westfjords and Skagi Peninsula, and its environs are among the least touristed in the country. Drivers headed from Reykjavík to Akureyri on the Ring Road mostly see undulating agricultural land, but few dramatic landmarks to beckon them off course. Anyone passing through, however, should consider a daytime or overnight detour, particularly for seal-watching on Vatnsnes peninsula or visiting the 19th-century stone church at Þingeyrar. For a dinner excursion, consider a side trip to Texas courtesy of the Kántrýbær restaurant, run by Icelandic country-and-western impresario Hallbjörn Hjartarson. Tune your car radio to FM 96.7, 102.2, or 107.0 to catch Hallbjörn's radio show.
