For many tourists, Krabi has become a popular, more eco-friendly alternative to the heavily commercialized Phuket and backpacker boomtown of Koh Phi Phi. For others, it's an easy stop along the way. Flights connecting with Krabi's international airport mean tourists can in fact bypass Bangkok and arrive directly from other parts of Asia, or arrange an air or road transfer from Phuket International airport. Destination Air, a new amphibious light plane service based in Phuket, also services this popular resort region. Ferries and minivans from other destinations connect via songtaew and boats to the nearby tourist strip of Ao Nang and farther-flung beaches.
