Introduction

Arguably the most intriguing town in the north of France, Laon perches on a ridge that rises 98m (322 ft.) above the plain and the Ardon River. The capital of the département (mini-state) of Aisne, Laon has a long, turbulent history, attributable in large part to its remarkable location.
