Introduction
Maiori is 15km (9 miles) west of Vietri and 6km (4 miles) east of Amalfi on SS 163. Minori is 18km (11 miles) west of Vietri sul Mare, and 3km (2 miles) east of Amalfi along SS 163
Back when Amalfi was a powerful maritime republic, one of the few land accesses to its territory was the valley of the large stream, Reginna Maior, which comes into the sea at Maiori and lends its name to this village. This was an important little harbor in the Middle Ages and today is a pleasant village with both nice beaches and artistic attractions. At the mouth of a smaller stream -- the Reginna Minor -- lies Minori, a hamlet famous for its beaches. Ravello's notoriety often overshadows the other villages nearby, yet they are well worth your attention (it also secures comparative calm for them). Here you will find a few hidden art treasures, including an 11th-century monastery with beautiful frescoes.
