‘Tis the season for giving; and traveling, so why not put the two together? A new trend in travel lets you do just that, by taking your globetrotting romps and using them to give back this holiday season. If you’re one of those frequent travelers who cherishes their loyalty reward programs, using your trips to rack up airlines, car, and hotel points, you can give back by donating your miles to your favorite charity.
As Smarter Travel reports, giving back this season can be as easy as a couple clicks or a phone call. The article was a result of a frequent traveler who was retired and didn’t have the means to keep traveling, but wanted to do something meaningful with their miles. While many people may share their miles by giving them to a friend or family member, giving your miles to charity provides another option for frequent travelers.
According to Smarter Travel, travelers can donate anywhere from 1,000 to upwards of 100,000 points to various charities. Donating miles can save money for non-profits, because they can take the fundsthey would’ve typically spent on airline tickets, and use it elsewhere. As the article reports, it doesn’t even have to be a huge sum of miles. You might have leftover miles after your latest trip or have miles that are expiring that you can donate to your charity of choice. Most of the participating charities are national or international, and as of right now, aren’t typically local agencies.
