You Must Be This Old to Ride: Disney Fantasy to Offer Adult-Only Entertainment Areas

If you like Europe and cruise ships, but need a break from hundreds of screaming children, then Europa might just be the place for you. Europa is the name of the adult-only entertainment section of the Disney cruise ship, Fantasy. The ship, which will cruise the Caribbean when it’s complete in March 2012, will have 14 towering decks, be 1,115 feet long and 125 feet wide. The 130,000-ton vessel will have 1,250 staterooms and will be able to hold 4,000 passengers at its maximum.

According to USA Today, Disney is planning a Europe-themed entertainment area aimed at the adults on the ship. Some of what you will find there:

  • La Piazza – a bar modeled after a vintage Italian carousel and other Italian themes, but which will also have an Irish pub-feel built in, but more contemporary (think dark woods and brass accents).
  • Skyline bar – this lounge will feature electronic “windows” that will cycle through skylines of major cities around Europe, like Paris, St. Petersburg, and Barcelona.
  • Ooh La La – “a champagne bar designed to resemble an elegant French boudoir.” This takes the place of the Pink Champagne bar on the current cruise ship, Disney Dream.
  • The Tube – a nightclub based on 1960’s era London, which will include the classic red phone booth and a huge illuminated Union Jack on the dancefloor.

The inspiration for the designers was the idea of “spending a night clubbing in Europe.” Although the themed bars are a little contrived, we can’t help but like this theme. And we’re sure the adults on the cruise will be
