Monday Aww-Day: Peregrine Falcon Chicks

We can totally understand the draw of a good turn-down service, but we’re not sure how long it would be until the fun of hotel-living wore off. Clearly the Peregrine Falcon family who has been making its nest in the Sheraton Hotel in Hamilton, Ontario doesn’t feel the same way. The falcon family has been laying eggs on the hotel’s roof for seventeen years! And after almost facing extinction in the ’60s and ’70s, this is pretty exciting for the birds and their human fans.

And right on schedule they’ve done it again this year. Four babies were born in the beginning of May, and were tagged and named on May 25th in a process called “banding”. The little guys were named Sunshine, Cinnamon, William and Kate (pretty cute names if you ask us).

If you’re in the Hamilton area don’t miss out on the big fun coming at the end of June when fledging occurs and the falcons first take flight. Check the volunteer website for more info or the falcon’s webcam for constant viewing.
