Most “Social” Airports List Released

Turns out Heathrow takes the gold when it comes to being the most social airport in the UK….according to Facebook, at least.

The Daily Mail recently noted that Facebook states, “more people have used their mobile to brag about being at Heathrow Airport than any other airport in the UK”.

Still, Heathrow only came in 20th worldwide, with Los Angeles’ airport, LAX, clocking in at number 1. A few other American airports took the next several slots including Chicago O’Hare, San Francisco International Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth and Denver. Sydney came in at number 7. Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport and the Netherlands’ Amsterdam Airport Schiphol also found themselves in the top 20.

Although it’s interesting to see the break-down, Facebook’s social awards may be skewed since more Americans might be into “bragging” about which airport they are in as compared to other nationalities.

If we look at a different contest, say the world’s greenest airports, we get some different winners. East Midlands Airport in England makes the list, according to Green Buzz. As does Logan International in Boston, Stevens Point in Wisconsin, Northwest Florida Beaches Airport in Florida, and Zurich Airport in Switzerland.

Which airports made both lists? San Francisco and Denver. Interesting.

Anyway, we wonder if some more European or Asian airports will make the Facebook social list now that they know how the contest is set up. There’s also that little issue of Facebook’s omnipresent tracking of their users and invasion of privacy, though we guess we already knew nothing is private anymore.
