Description:

Bimhuis is located a five minute stroll along the IJ from central station and is a great place for any music-lover to spend an evening. It's part of the larger Muziekgebouw aan het IJ, a modern theatre for music and dance performances. The Bimhuis is a much more intimate auditorium which seats around 100 people. It offers a range of live performances including contemporary jazz, impro-rock, blues, Latin and other world-music. Although most of the music featured here is rather contemporary, famous old school European and American jazz musicians like Charles Mingus and Max Roach have played here in the past. Besides hosting bands, Bimhuis also organizes many workshops and musical projects. On a Tuesday evening you can enter for free to listen to musicians from the Amsterdam conservatorium practise in front of a live audience, under the instruction of a music teacher. After this formal section, there's an open podium for the musicians to perform. The venue also has an amazing restaurant and bar with a huge terrace right on the water's edge.
