NileGuide Expert tip:

The quality of the evening menu here is variable, so enjoy the amazing location for a coffee, lunch, or glass of wine with snacks.

Description:

Take the free ferry from Amsterdam Central station - direction NDSM Werf. You'll see the Ij-Kantine as soon as you exit the ferry. It has a huge terrace along the habor wall and is beautifully lit by strings of lights in the evening. The building is actually the original restaurant of the boat builders who used to work in the harbor. It now has a modern, fashionable and impressive interior. It attracts a real mix of customers, from families to students. It's open all day, and is a wonderful place to enjoy a relaxed morning coffee with a view over the water towards Amsterdam, or to lounge on a sofa in front of the fire on a cold winters day. The evening menu is reasonably priced with main courses around Euro 16 (2011), however the quality is variable. I would recommend eating somewhere else and then coming here for a drink or dessert, simply to enjoy the fantastic location.
