Monsoon Poon made its name in Wellington and has invaded Auckland. It describes itself as the consulate of SE Asia and they do a nice job of keeping the flavors distinct in every dish. This is a surprisingly lively place where the bar is generally crowded with people waiting on tables. The wine list is not extensive (we're in SE Asia by the way), but the Asian beers are always cold. If you are staying near, you can always ring them up and get takeaways.
