Description:

You're visiting Augusta and want to enjoy a nice walk or hike – but don't have the time to leave the city to find a nature preserve.  You're in luck – Capitol Park has just what you're seeking for a quick stroll in the heart of the city. This 20-acre parcel features was impressively designed by famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead, probably best known for his work on Central Park in New York City.

The park's well-paved pathways and sidewalk access wind their way among stately hardwood trees and immaculately manicured lawn with the towering state capitol building as an impressive backdrop. The park also features two compelling monuments that pay tribute to Vietnam Veterans and the victims of 9/11. It makes for a day of picnicking, hiking or walking, or just relaxing within this site of pastoral beauty. Capitol Park is situated on Augusta's west side, across from State Street. Parking for visitors can be found on Capitol and Union streets.
