This brewery is run by a sober American man who takes his brews very seriously. Located down a hard-to-find alley off Nanluoguxiang, this hidden gem remains one of the more popular summer beer gardens in the capital.

With brews ranging from the typical IPA to more local-flavored honey and ma varities, you'll find something you enjoy to sip on in the courtyard. Beers are served warm and heavy, more like a soup than one's normal perception of beer. Still, the owner tries to stay true to the nature and history of beer, and as such resist pressure to chill his beers, even in the hot summer months.

For a fun and delightful beer tasting experience in a traditional Chinese courtyard, Great Leap is not to be missed.
