Great trails for kids.

California Highway 1
Big Sur, CA 93920

The trails in Limekiln State Park are moderate level hikes, so they are very accessible for nature-lovers in any kind of shape. Towering redwoods are the hallmark of Limekiln, but babbling brooks, wispy waterfalls, and easy coastal access all make Limekiln State Park one of the favorite destinations in Big Sur. Also on sprinkled throughout the park are the monolith limekilns that produced limed in the 1870s and 80s, and that the park takes its name after. They are out of commission now, but time and nature have turned these wrought-iron behemoths, what used to be symbols of production and industrialization, into fanciful forest backdrops.

Thirty-three campsites are located within Limekiln, and reservations for a spot can be made by calling 1-800-444-PARK (7275). Backpacking is also encouraged in this state park. Fishing is also permitted.
