Earlier this month I attended a concert at the Auditorium Oscar Niemeyer, which was the first time I was inside Ravello’s new modern auditorium. Designed by the famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, the Auditorium just might go down in history as one of the most controversial architectural projects ever constructed on the Amalfi Coast. But the fact that it was completed – especially in a UNESCO World Heritage protected area – is a feat in itself. Now, amid the continuing controversy, it remains to be seen if the Auditorium will be utilized to is maximun potential as a setting for concerts and events during the winter months.
All in all, I was pleasantly impressed by my first visit to the Auditorium Oscar Niemeyer. The night view of its striking, curved white form across the entrance terrace is stunning. The interior was warm and welcoming, and the seats were surprisingly comfortable. I hope to return again soon for another concert!
