You know all those random creative types juggling, miming, and painted up and frozen like a statue in the street with a hat full of change on the sidewalk? Sure you do. You’ve stopped, snapped some photos, maybe even dug some contributions out of your pockets as they entertained you. This weekend’s festival in Lumphini Park is the third such annual celebration of street performance and has hopes of becoming an annual event that is recognized worldwide.
For three days, December 10-12, performers from all over Southeast Asia and the larger world will take over the park to impress the gathering crowds. Magic, dance, comedy, clowns, acrobatics — the list of categories — and the uncategorizable — is long. Show your support and don’t forget your camera. The shows take place on stages from 3-9pm and admission to the festival is free. Take the BRT Sala Daeng station or the MRT to Silom. See the event’s website for more information.
