One Day in Beijing

Things to Do — By Lauren Johnson on August 8, 2011 at 8:36 am

Beijing is a beautiful city and a single day there is worth a few days anywhere else. First, imagine the sites you could see in a day in China’s capital city. No doubt you’ve heard of the Forbidden City, The Great Wall, and possibly you’ve heard of the tasty fame of the Peking Duck or the annoyingly addictive sounds of the Beijing Opera. All of these things can be found in one city, and much, much more.

Aside from the obvious, there are fantastic shopping malls, stellar restaurants, unbelievable local artwork and activities and fun people to interact with. You’ll be amazed at how quickly a day can go by in Beijing, especially if you just spend it with the locals. You could literally walk around your hotel for hours looking around at the the differences between your world and the capital of China.

But, if you only have one day in Beijing, you have to see the big stuff. You have to visit the Great Wall, Forbidden City and try Peking Duck. You have to try some local street food. Try the Donhuamen Night Market near Wangfujing, for example. There is enough written on all of these major attractions, and much more on off-the-beaten-path activities in Beijing. What you need to know is what those major sites are, and that’s why we’re listing them for you here.
