In the week following Irene, Puerto Viejo de Limon was arumble with thunder while gusty winds wreaked minor havoc, and the sky seemed ready to break at the drop of a hat. Today, all is quiet on the weather front and the sun shone hot most of the day. Here, a BMW with a Panama license plate is juxtaposed with a fenderless beater with Costa Rica plates. A handpainted sign depicting two sides of a Puerto Viejo beach is hung over the empty wire trash bin, part of the series that reads Puerto Viejo Contra La Basura, Juntos Podemos, Estamos Organizados.
