Introducing the much anticipated Florence Museum Card! It will be available starting February 14th. It will allow anyone to enter into both civic and state-owned museums and landmarks. The Florence Museum Card will cost 50 euro and will permit a single entrance to all civic and state-owned museums for a maximum of three days or 72 hours. It will NOT include free transportation as it was previously stated when the idea was first introduced. It may increase the entrance tickets but this is still waiting to be confirmed. Around 20 million euro a year will be kept to help pay for city maintenance. Officials have commented on the fact that they will start getting rid of the graffiti and the illegal vendors near the city museums as well.

There will be 30 museums which you can enter easily with this card. Florence’s state museums are as follows: Galleria degli Uffizi, Galleria dell’Accademia, Galleria Palatina, Museo degli Argenti, Giardino di Boboli, Galleria d’Arte Moderna, Museo di San Marco, Cappelle Medicee, Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Museo Archeologico, Museo dell’Opificio delle Pietre Dure and Ville Medicee (Villa La Petraia, Villa di Poggio a Caiano, Giardino della Villa di Castello, Villa di Cerreto Guidi). The civic museums which you are able to enter as well are: Palazzo Vecchio, Museo Bardini, Museo di Santa Maria Novella, Brancacci Chapel.

If you plan on staying for a longer period and wish to visit the museums in a timely fashion, the Amici degli Uffizi offers a one-year membership (60 euros per adult, 40 euros per student, or 100 euros for a family of 4) that gets you into state museums (but not communal ones).

This is a great solution for tourists who want to see the masterpieces of the city and landmarks that everyone talks about. It is expensive but do you really want to wait in line all day?
