Things to Do, Travel Tips — By katiegreenaway on April 14, 2011 at 1:13 pm

A festival for people who love a nice walk and to be one with nature. And also those who enjoy an excursion through the gorgeous landscapes of Tuscany. This year the festival will be held on the island of Capraia. There are two rounds of excursions one from April 16th to May 8th and the other from September 24th to November 1st.

Expert guides will take travelers through the amazing places of the Tuscan Archipelago- Elba, Giglio, Capraia, Giannutri, Pianosa, Gorgona, and Montecristo. This year you can explore all 7 isles. The purpose of the walking festival is to entice nature lovers on thematic walks throughout the region and they are able to participate in events and initiatives that highlight the naturalistic treasures of the regions coastal areas and islands.

The parks in Tuscany that are participating: the Regional Park of the Apuane Alps, the Regional Park of Migliarino, San Rossore and Masacciuccoli, the Provincial Park of the Monti Livornesi, the Interprovincial Park of Montioni, the Val di Cornia Parks, the Regional Park of Maremma and the Tuscan Archipelago National Park.

A walk is one thing, but taking a walk through the most beautiful places in the Tuscan countryside is quite another. Anyone coming to Tuscany around these dates, I would recommend taking part in this festival. Not only because it is an unique experience but it will give you a different perspective of Tuscany. The countryside has a completely different personality than the city.
