As I left Winter Park’s Pita Pit today with my delicious feta and souvlaki pita, I snagged a copy of Orlando’s Drink Magazine, a petite publication that can be picked up for free all over the city. What grabbed my attention were the words on the cover… The five best drinks to try in Orlando this month. Ooh, do tell Drink Magazine!
According to Drink, here are the must-try cocktails in Orlando for September… plus a couple recommendations of my own:
La Chouffe – a Belgian ale being served at Redlight Redlight. Formerly of Hannibal Square but now located downtown at 745 Bennett Rd, Orlando, this self proclaimed ‘beer parlor’ has 20 beers on tap and over 70 bottles plus a staff that isn’t just a bunch of pretty faces… they know their beer and can expertly guide you away from a boring brew.
St. Bernardus ABT 12 – a ‘see ya tomorrow’ Belgium beer boasting 10.5% alcohol. Wowzers. This feisty brew is being served up at The Milk Bar, thus named for its proximity to the T.G. Lee milk factory in the area affectionately known as The Milk District. Besides a few TKO drinks, The Milk Bar’s beer menu reads like an encyclopedia with more than 80 different ales offered.
The Suzanne French – a drinkable dessert that tastes like a decadent strawberry cheesecake. Like all of the ‘Pinnacle’ martinis at Wall Street Plaza’s Monkey Bar, this drink is enormous. Stop by during happy hour Tuesday – Friday from 5pm to 7pm when these martinis are just $3.50 each.
Blue Raspberry Sno Cone – Smirnoff Blueberry, Smirnoff Raspberry, Blue Caracao, Chambord and a few splashes each of cranberry juice and 7-Up. If this drink doesn’t knock your socks off, maybe the the line-up of weekly events might at Stonewall Bar and Grill, a gay bar located on West Church Street. Wear leather on ‘Tied Up Tuesday” and underwear on “Think About it Thursday”.
Grand Slam Shot – half Jameson, half butterscotch schnapps served with an orange juice chaser… yikes! Graffiti Junktion is a popular watering hole but make sure you try them for their eats too… the burgers are award wining.
My two cents….
Madam Roxanne – VanGogh Vodka, pineapple and cranberry juice finished with a splash of Champagne. Sip this lovely libation inside the posh Bosendorfer Lounge at the Grand Bohemian Hotel where piano notes float through the air nightly.
Three Hill Cuvee Pinot Noir – a dense red with memories of coffee, black plum, and nutmeg. Located just steps from tranquil Lake Eola Park, Eola Wine Company is the ideal spot for a mid-stroll sip.
