Description:

The Iglesia Museo Santa Clara is located in the Candelaria district, close to Palacio de NariƱo and Capitolio Nacional. Built in 1629 the building was originally acted as the church for the nuns of the order of the Clarisas. Restored and opened as a museum in 1983 this spectacular edifice houses over one hundred works of religious art dating back to the 17th century and including pieces by renowned artists. There are nine wood carvings and various sculptures and if you look carefully and enter the crypt chapel you can see ancient murals and frescos. The museum consists of one room but is worth every penny as it will take your best efforts to cast your eyes over each relic and take it all in since there is so much information.
