NileGuide Expert tip:

Get to the CFCC early because the venue gets very crowded

Description:

The French Centre for Culture and Cooperation  (CFCC) in Mounira is just a few minutes walk away from Makan music venue. It has a nice outdoor cafe serving, as you would expect, very good - and pretty cheap - coffee, and has an excellent library of French language books, magazines and comics.

Most importantly for visitors, though, the CFCC puts on some of the best and most progressive music events in Cairo. Once every few months or so a well known or up-and-coming French act is brought over, and the courtyard is turned into a banging dancefloor complete with fat sound system, bar, and even some food.

The acts at the CFCC are usually dance music focused, including Techno, Drum 'n Bass and Hip-Hop, and are usually really good. The venue gets very crowded - the music events are free - and because of licensing laws need to finish by midnight, so it's best to get there as close as possible to 9 pm.
