Description:

Located on the other side of Halmtorvet Square from trendy Apropos and Carlton, PH Cafeen is located in a stone building at the side of Øksnehallen. Inside the rather drab exterior, however, large windows let in the light and plenty of space between the tables (both regular cafe seating and the more informal coffee tables and armchairs) makes it handy for families and those with strollers. Originally built as a place for grocers visiting Kødbyen to stay, PH Cafeen (along with much of Kødbyen) is owned by the City of Copenhagen. As well as its extensive and very reasonable cafe menu, PH Cafeen also holds regular culture events that range from live concerts by experimental local artists to open mike, poetry and debate evenings. The artwork is also a little different: When we visited, it displayed some energetic canvases from the local daycare center. There's no wait service, so order at the bar; outside seating is provided in summer.
