2930 Copenhagen, Denmark
In 2010 long-established summer restaurant Den Gule Cottage
(the yellow cottage) up the coast from Copenhagen was joined by its neighbor, Den Røde Cottage. The red cottage is, as the name suggests, a charming red-painted stone house surrounded by trees and peaceful countryside on the coast road north of Copenhagen near Klampenborg. With both cottages now being leased by a talented trio of chefs from some of Denmark's best kitchens—Restaurant 1th
, Søllerød Kro and Dragsholm Slot—the team headed by Anita Klemmensen were awarded their first Michelin star in 2012. What's more surprising are the prices: DKK 450 for 3 courses, DKK 550 for 5 or DKK 650 for a full 7 courses from the changing set menu. The cuisine is contemporary Scandinavian: Starters of lumpfish roe with new potatoes and dill, local, seasonal vegetables like artichoke and carrot, flavors of capers and apple—all served on spotless Royal Copenhagen blue porcelain.
