Neila provides a fine dining option in the unlikely surrounds of Cowra, market town of the Southern Highlands - a rough and ready place populated by farmers well outside the Sydney commuter belt. Still, this is a nice part of the world, and is worth a few days visit. If you do head up the Highlands, try to make it to Cowra between Thursday and Saturday, so that you can drop past Neila for a meal. Neila is an excellent restaurant, offering great food prepared with local ingredients. The menu is a standard modern Australian confection – careful and truly multicultural cooking with fine fresh ingredients - and there are no attempts at fancy degustation menus. If you are after a classy meal, having had a hard afternoon's travelling, antique hunting, or poking around country-towns, then Niela's high standards and impeccable presentation make it the perfect choice for a tasty dinner.
