Not only the geographical center of Florianopolis, the banks of the Lagoa da Conceicao are in many ways also the island's cultural heart. A mix of beaches, dunes, mountains, and water, the lagoon clearly provides much for the outdoor enthusiast: hike along its banks and dunes; windsurf, boat, kayak, or kite surf on its azure waters; or hang-glide from neighboring hills. Once the sun sets, fuel up at one of the excellent restaurants nearby then hit the homey, traditional bars in the "Centrinho" (little downtown) neighborhood, along Avenida das Rendeiras and the road to Praia Mole. In many ways, Lagoa da Conceicao is more of a "center" than the "Centro" (downtown) neighborhood to the west.
