Description:

Curious about Florida's history? Want to learn about how the Native Americans and early settlers lived along Charlotte Harbor's shores? You can quickly grasp all that most tourists want to know by a stop at the Charlotte County Historical Center on Bayshore Road, just off U.S. 41 in Charlotte Harbor.  Because the attractive museum is small, its collections of artifacts, pictures and printed information on the walls somehow reminds one of the CliffsNotes college students sometimes use. It provides a condensed and easy method of absorbing regional historical information and a visit doesn't take your entire day. While largely designed to inform locals, most tourists and snowbirds will find the Center both interesting and useful. You also can buy books, old fashioned toys and other interesting gifts that are not available in the traditional large box stores. Put a brief stop at the Charlotte County Historical Center on your list as you drive south from Sarasota to Punta Gorda and other coastal points.
