Housed in a building designed by Alexander "Greek" Thomson, the Centre for Contemporary Arts features a changing display of experimental art and films. It curates six major exhibitions a year, showing a wide range of Scottish and international contemporary art, as well as being home to Intermedia Gallery for emerging artists. Free wi-fi is available in the excellent courtyard café bar and Aye-Aye Books in the foyer space stocks a selection of art books for perusal.
The Glasgow International Jazz Festival is an annual event, usually running from the last week of June through the first days of July, brings a few top jazz acts to Glasgow. In recent years, the festival featured saxophonist David Murray and singer/songwriter Van Morrison, as well as showcasing more locally based talent, such as singers Carol Kidd and Tommy Smith. Free events are always included in the "Fringe" schedule.
