The Merchant City

Address:

Glasgow,

Description:

Developed after the 1750s, Glasgow's Merchant City was once home to the city's main fruit, cheese and vegetables markets and full of warehouses. Today, it is the city's cultural, fashion and food quarter. The warehouses have been converted into trendy pubs, restaurants and cafes. Victorian buildings have been restored and converted into prestigious housing developments and the area features high-end shopping thanks to the Italian Centre, which houses Versace and Armani shops. The area is the equivalent of London's SoHo or Covent Garden neighborhoods. The multi-arts Merchant City Festival attracts thousands of tourists every September.
