NileGuide Expert tip:

If you love the charm of Old Mexico, you will love Hotel Playa de Cortez. If your preference is for all of the modern conveniences, this is not a good choice for you. Also, this hotel is an extremely popular wedding location for Guaymas couples. If your stay includes a Saturday night, chances are you will witness a romantic Mexican wedding along with some lively dance music into the late hours.

Description:

A hotel housed in what appears to be a grand old hacienda or mansion can evoke a sense of history in such an intense way. This is true of the colonial-style hotels across Mexico; many of which are housed in mansions built long ago and thus create an incredible feeling of being in another time. Down a long tree lined, cobble-stoned entrance, you will come to a huge fountain and The Playa de Cortez in Baccochibampo Bay, mid-way between Guaymas and San Carlos.

This is such a grand Old Mexico hacienda-style hotel. With the feel of having been transported to another era and set down in an aging Hollywood movie set, this hotel is old and it shows. But that is fine because there is no other place which so quietly and assuredly speaks of a long-lost time of graciousness and stateliness.

The rooms located in the building closest to the sea are a favorite. With French doors opening for the sea breezes and fireplaces in the rooms, you can enjoy most any season here. The bathrooms are a bit out dated. However, the views of the sea are really awesome.

The grounds with grand fountains, expansive grassy yards and overgrown trees, bouganvillas and cacti will invite you to stroll the property at sunset yet reminding you that once this place was a spectacular destination!

The property is also home to a RV Park. There is a boat dock, a sandy beach, tennis courts, a beautiful pool which has stunning views of sea just past the bouganvillas.

There is a dark and musty old bar with huge wood carvings overhead of Indians and conquistadors. Sitting here will give you a feeling of lost in time, also. There is also a restaurant on site.

This hotel is out of the way. It is just past the turn off to San Carlos. Continue on Highway 15 and at the north end of Guaymas you will take the Miramar exit. You can follow the signs and this road about a mile or so and you will find Bacochibambo Bay and through huge iron gates, the Hotel Playa de Cortes.
