Description:

Plaza Zaragoza is Hermosillo's most central plaza.

Built in 1865, it houses a beautiful Moorish style kiosk, or gazebo, which is very ornate ironwork and was brought from Florence, Italy sometime in the early 20th century. Here you will find large shade trees and flower gardens and in amidst these is a statue of General Ignacio Pesqueira (Hermosillo's International airport is also named after this general and Governor) and a statue of General GarcĂa Morales.

This plaza is home to several festivals and celebrations throughout the year, including the September15th celebration of Mexico's Independence. On one side of the Plaza sits the Asuncion Cathedral. On the other sides is the Government Place.

Hermosillo is a state capital and the center for Sonora history, tradition and culture. Nowhere will you experience this more than a visit to the Plaza Zaragoza and it surrounding spectacular buildings.
