The temptation to sequester oneself in the recognized tourist areas of Saigon can be a hindrance to culinary adventure. This fabulous restaurant is a case in point. Despite serving some of the best Vietnamese food in the city in a serene converted house, its location on the outer limits of District 1 is often a deterrent to short-term visitors. All of which is a roundabout way of saying that you'd be losing out if you missed out on this place as a result of inertia. In common with many Vietnamese restaurants, the menu is tome-like.  Saigon's chefs could teach their counterparts in the west a thing or two about multi-tasking, however, and what is served is uniformly flawless.  Homemade tofu is creamy and pliant and is sure to convince the doubters while other highlights include soft shell crab and beautifully textured red rice. An extensive wine list and reasonable prices make it even more imperative to steer a course to this hidden gem.
