Description:

Most people would not think of Anne Frank and Idaho in the same sentence. However, when a traveling exhibit about Anne Frank came through Boise in 1995, thousands of people attended and were significantly moved by the message and the legacy. Some of them banded together to create the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial.

The meditative space includes a sculpture of Anne Frank seeming to peer out of a window. Quotes by human rights activists etched in stone surround the space.A burbling water feature not only drowns out traffic, but adds a sense of being apart from the rest of the world, allowing visitors time and focus to contemplate the words and thoughts and images in the memorial setting. Stone benches, grassy areas, and lush landscaping make this an attractive place to visit, to eat lunch, to write, or to find peace.

The memorial is part of the Idaho Human Rights Education Center and is visited by many school groups, readers, and walkers. Part of its purpose is to educate Idahoans and all visitors about the need to find human dignity in each other and promote peace and equality.
