Beyoğlu – Galata
Beyoğlu and Galata region are interconnected webs of sophisticated and intellectual social districts of Taksim. There are many nice cafes, theaters, second hand stores, terrace restaurants, language, history and art institutions, as well as wine bars, churches and institutionalized schools. The Galatasaray High School is the pivotal point, from where one can either walk into the heart of Galata, all the way into Çukurcuma; or delve into the Tunnel district all the way until Galata Tower. Çukurcuma is a region that has recently gained a lot of attention, thanks to the intellectuals and foreigners of the city, who has moved in here and established little businesses and artisan shops. There are indeed many antique stores and artisan cafes around this region. Galata has always been historically and culturally significant. Thanks to the presence of Galatasaray High School here and the German High School further down in the Tunnel, the region has also been kept lively and young with the student population. The Tunnel region used to be a bohemian area not very much visited by the elitist population. Recently, this area has gained enormous potential and has become bewilderingly popular among the trendsetters and trend followers. Asmalı Mescit Street, which used to be a commercial street with artisan shops, butcher shops, plumbers etc. has become the new bar street, crowding out the crafts people.Nightlife
