When filming his gourmet program "No Reservations" in Istanbul, Anthony Bourdain started off his day here with a proper and traditional Turkish breakfast; commented: "Does somebody need to feel guilty eating this?"

Description:

Kale Cafe is an extremely in-demand place for one-of-a-kind traditional Turkish breakfast on the weekends. You will see in the pictures and confirm that there is nothing fancy about this place at all. Apart from its astonishing view and highly reputable Turkish breakfasts, Kale Cafe is indeed a tiny and unornamented simple place. Yet, it is one of the most preferred places to have breakfast on a weekend morning. Such that the locals line up at its door or wake up earlier than usual to be one of the first arrivals for breakfast. It is hard to believe, but the Kale Cafe has a loyal clientele from three different generations. From a variety of Turkish cheeses to jams, virgin olives, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers to egg varities, Kale Cafe serves its clients best samples of the traditional Turkish breakfast. Although not a fancy place, the Kale Cafe breads -off the oven and fresh- exceeds all of the baked goods of the elite patisseries of Nisantasi and Etiler, with budget prices promising value for much less money. Anthony Bourdain fueled his engines at Kale Cafe as well, when he was on a gourmet mission in Istanbul. He had the "full" Turkish breakfast that the Turkish people tend to have on the weekends with their families. He started with a unique type of grilled cheese from Cyprus. His table was decorated with virgin olives, various other cheeses, tomatoes, cucumbers and all the other typical breakfast dishes. He was particularly into "honey & kaymak" (cream from goat or cow milk) spreaded into warm, flat bread (yufka -thin phyllo dough). As his breakfast was the "full" type, he was also served eggs with Turkish sausage, börek (with kasar cheese -consider mozeralla filled hot pastries) and salted waffles as well-rectangularly shaped and filled with potatoes, cheese, minced meat or grass-roots. He did remark that he was not going to eat anything afterwards -same is recommended to you too :) To watch Anthony Bourdain at Kale: /watch?v=pz223HRovno
