Description:

Kiva Han focuses on what its founders deem is missing from the Turkish culture: awareness... The owners are very well known people in the realm of gastronomy, places and food. To give their names and background, Önder Köse, manager of both Lacivert and Hayal Kahvesi, Levent Veziroğlu, a gourmet, as well as executive director of an established Turkish holding and Zeynep Kalkınç, member of Mutfak Dostları Derneği (Foundation of Kitchen Friends) are the founders. They departed from the understanding that us Turks did not have the right level of awareness to grasp our own kitchen and culture. They asked themselves and a couple of others what "Kiva" meant in the first place and were aghast at how very few people had an idea. Kiva is a city in Özbekistan that has been globally acknowledged as one of the remaining cities that culturally abound; and it culturally abounds with Turkish arts and crafts primarily. Thus they named their place Kiva Han, Public House of Kiva in other words. The food served at Kiva Han is obviously from Anatolian cuisine. The menu changes daily, you can enlist yourself into their mail group and have them deliver you the daily menu. The menu includes some very interesting dishes such as nettle soup, corn soup of the Black Sea region, a vegetable dish with yogurt and rice from the south of Turkey called Borani, traditional okra, a variety of börek (stuffed pastry), dishes without meat in them, such as falafel and more... Definitely worth a visit for lunch.
