NileGuide Expert tip:

The concerts categorized as "Festival Encounters / Festival Buluşmaları" sound like an interesting catch. Well known conductors and/or soloists that had never performed together, perform together for the first time in these events.

Description:

This annual musical event organized by the Istanbul Arts and Culture Foundation every June or July (dates vary every year). Live classical, jazz, folk and contemporary music concerts by local and international performers, most of them held in open-air venues, take place in Istanbul's popular amphitheaters, fortresses, churches, as well as various historical sites such as the Yildiz Palace and the Emirgan White Pavilion. Since its inception, 35 years ago, the International Istanbul Music Festival hosted honorable conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Sir John Elliot Gardiner, Riccardo Muti, Ton Koopman, William Christie, Howard Griffiths, Valery Gergiev, Christopher Hogwood, Pierre Boulez, Kurt Masur, Mark Minkowski and José Collado; and a distinguished list of soloists such as Elizabeth Scwarzkopf, Kiri Te Kanawa, Kathleen Battle, Cecilia Bartoli, Montserrat Caballé, Itzhak Perlman, Mischa Maisky, Maxim Vengerov, Gidon Kremer, Joshua Bell, Aldo Cicciolini, Daniel Barenboim and Juan Diego Florez. The International Istanbul Music Festival is also a member of European Festival Association since 1977. Tickets can be purchased online on www.biletix.com
