Peter Lougheed Cross-Country Ski Trails and Snowshoeing

NileGuide Expert Says:

This is an ideal spot for cross-country skiing that not a whole lot of people take advantage of.

Address:

Kananaskis, Canada

NileGuide Expert tip:

The nearest washrooms are in the Visitor centre and the Pocaterra Hut. There are 7 access points off of Spray Trail, about 60 km from Canmore, and the north end is accessible by Highway 40.

Description:

Peter Lougheed Provincial Park cross-country ski area has more groomed trails than even the Canmore Nordic Centre. It's free. It's not crowded. It's good for all levels of skiing experience. The snow is always excellent, the views are spectacular (especially when you can get up to higher elevations), and there are two buildings to help you keep warm: the Visitor Centre and the Pocaterra Hut.

William Watson Lodge is nearby. It is a facility designed to help disabled Albertans to stay and enjoy the mountains at a reasonable price. The lodge provides year-round accommodation, and it truly one of the unique (and good) aspects of being Canadian.
